After studying double bass and piano at the Conservatorio "G. Nicolini" in his city, Franco Bagutti started giving concerts abroad at a very young age with Maestro Russato, his teacher and the first double bass of the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala. By the late 1960s, he abandoned classical repertoire to focus on light music. He joined the ensemble led by Maestro Vitali, performing in various European countries with stops in the East as well. Upon returning to Italy, he began collaborating with the saxophonist Leo Bruni's orchestra and with Maestro Pippo Caruso's orchestra (future musical director of Pippo Baudo). In the early 1970s, he founded his first musical group: "Il Bagu". However, it was during this period, given the growing success of dance music, that Franco began transforming his group, and in 1973 he founded the Franco Bagutti Orchestra in Piacenza, a formation destined to deeply revolutionize Italian dance music.
