In 2019/2020, all businesses in Pejo 3000 ski area banned dishes, glasses, disposable straws and plastic bottles. The decision was quite challenging but Pejo 3000, in Stelvio National Park, is now renowned as the first plastic free ski area in the world.
The decision was backed by the tourism operators to preserve the beauty and authenticity of the environment where we live. The Val di Sole Tourist Board, in collaboration with Pejo Funivie company, the Scuola Italiana Sci e Snowboard Val di Pejo [Italian School of Ski and Snowboard] and the ski huts in the ski area have developed the Pejo Plastic Free project through the definition of eco-sustainable objectives, goals and good practices in accordance with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development drawn up by the UN.
We hope that Pejo Plastic Free Project will be a reference for the entire Val di Sole and that a broader sustainability plan will be implemented in the whole valley. Our target is to have sustainable tourism in our mountains because we want to preserve our natural environment now and for the future generations.
