Churches, more than any other building, express the character and spirit of the times: today it is not easy to imagine what a church once meant for the people. The church was often the only stone building ; the bell tower was the point of reference for the inhabitants of the villages and for those who came from far away. The entire community was interested in building churches and was very proud of their wealth. The church was in fact the noblest and most beautiful building in the country.
Val di Peio is characterized by the presence of many churches: in fact there are more than ten sacred buildings in the area. For this reason the Val di Peio could also be defined as "The valley of the churches".
